Traditional Uses
- Osteoarthritis
- Joint Pain
- Useful for patients on NSAIDs
("non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs" such as ASA and Ibuprofen)
which inhibit cartilage repair
Mode of Action
- Helps in synthesis of cartilage both
by increasing key components of cartilage such as glucosaminoglycans and by
promoting incorporation of sulfur into cartilage
Drug Interactions
- No known drug interactionss
Cautions
- May produce stomach upset
- Since it is not a pain reliever,
improvement is gradual but real
Recommended Dose
- 500 mg three times a day. Individuals on diuretics may need to increase Dosage:to 20
mg/kg of body weight. (Dose may vary from brand to brand)
