Traditional Uses
  • Assists in the prevention and relief of migraine headaches
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
Mode of Action
  • Contains sesquinterpene lactones including parthenolide which inhibit the release of the hormone serotonin, which is believed to trigger migraines
  • They also suppress the production of inflammation causing prostaglandins.
Drug Interactions
  • May increase the effects of anticoagulant therapy. Do not take if taking warfarin, heparin or any other blood thinning drugs
Cautions
  • Sensitive individuals may develop contact dermatitis (skin rash) with prolonged use
  • Do not take during pregnancy or while breast feeding
  • Do not give to children under the age of two
  • May cause upset stomach
  • May cause mouth ulceration in sensitive people
  • People who stop taking feverfew may suffer from Post-feverfew syndrome including nervousness, tension, fatigue and joint-ache
Recommended Dose
  • 140 mg once a day containing a minimum 0.2% parthenolide (for 280 mcg parthenolide).
  • Do not exceed 1000 mcg of parthenolide per day. (Dose may vary from brand to brand)
