| MOST MARRIED CANADIANS BURDENED WITH A SNORING PARTNER Snoring Has Negative Effect On Many People's Lives And Marriages Toronto, ON - October 19, 2006 - According to a new Ipsos Reid survey conducted on behalf of Nutravite, a Canadian supplier of natural health products, most married people in Canada (54%) admit that their partner snores when sleeping. Regionally, the biggest married snorers are residents of British Columbia (60%), followed by Ontarians (58%) - while married residents of Quebec are the least likely to snore. "Snoring can cause stress among partners and I think that too many people don't look for solutions", says Sue Johanson, R.N. - Canada's foremost sexual educator and counsellor. "Loss of sleep can contribute to fatigue, create resentment and ultimately impact on a couple's sex life. After ruling out sleep apnea, a serious medical condition that is diagnosed by a physician, couples should look into various snoring cessation solutions, including products that are readily available on the market." Snoring is both a sleep and breathing disorder. The snoring noise is produced by a vibration of the tissues in the throat and is a clear signal that the breathing passage is obstructed by a narrowing of the airways causing normal sleep patterns to be disturbed. Some of the factors contributing to snoring include mouth anatomy, nasal problems, obesity, alcohol consumption and sleep apnea. Snoring cessation solutions include lifestyle changes such as weight loss, sleeping on one's side and reducing alcohol consumption before bed time. Other treatments include wearing oral appliances, traditional or laser surgery, or less invasive treatments such as non-prescription natural products such as SnoreStop - a clinically-proven homeopathic remedy for snoring. The survey reveals that among those who are married to a snorer, their partner's snoring has a negative effect on many aspects of their life and marriage. For example:
These are the findings of an Ipsos Reid poll fielded from October 5th to October 10th 2006. For the survey, a representative randomly selected sample of over 1700 married Canadians. With a sample of this size, the aggregate results are considered accurate to within ±2.5 percentage points, 19 times out of 20, of what they would have been had this entire population been polled. The margin of error will be larger within each sub-grouping of the survey population. These data were weighted to ensure the sample's regional and age/sex composition reflects that of the actual Canadian population according to the 2001 Census data. Nutravite is a Canadian supplier of pharmaceutical-grade natural health products and distributor of SnoreStop - a clinically-proven homeopathic remedy for snoring. A clinical study evaluating the safety and efficacy of SnoreStop was published in the medical journal, "Sleep and Breathing," Vol.3. No.2 1999, a well-respected, peer-reviewed medical journal. The study reported positive results in 79.5% of the SnoreStop group as compared to 45.5% in the placebo group. No side effects or drug interactions were reported.
